Yuva trains to Youth
Budget has something for everyone to feel happy. While the poor have been offered the 'Izzat' scheme, Mamata has enticed the youth with her 'Yuva' trains, while press people will be happy with the concessions announced by her. She also said that there would be no increase in train fares for the people.
Presenting her first budget as the UPA government's Railway Minister, Mamata Banerjee on Friday (July 3), announced a scheme called 'Izzat', by which poor people will be given a monthly pass for Rs 25 to make travel easier.
In her address in the Parliament, Banerjee said that her priority is to improve services and provide better amenities to the commuters.
She also announced that 50 stations will be turned into world class establishments in the coming years.
The Minister also announced concession to press correspondents in railway tickets by about fifty per cent once an year. She also announced 60 per cent concession for Madrasa students.
To cater to the huge population of youth in the country, she announced 'Yuva' train service, which will offer tickets for Rs 299 for 1500 km of travel.
Banerjee also announced that a new signalling system will be set up to improve the railway safety. She said that twelve non-stop train services will be introduced between select cities to speed up travel.
The minister also proposed to set up 800 new locations for train ticket reservations.

The Minister of Railways, Kumari Mamata Banerjee today announced 'Yuva Trains' dedicated specially for the young generation.
Presenting the Railway Budget for 2009-10, she said, these trains will be introduced between major cities to ensure that the youth and low income groups can travel at low rates between these cities.
The new low-priced fast train service will be started to connect youth in rural hinterlands to major metros/cities. Kumari Mamata Banerjee said, the train will provide air-condition seated accommodation and will run from point to point for distances ranging from 1000 km to 2500 km. The fare will be Rs. 299 for distances up to 1500 km and Rs. 399 for distances up to 2500 km.
