Train traffic disrupted across State
HYDERABAD: Train services in several parts of the State, Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra districts in particular, were thoroughly disrupted following rail rokos staged by the supporters of unified State.
Several long distance trains were blocked for more than two hours by the agitators who raised slogans in support of a united Andhra Pradesh. As many as 92 trains were blocked for a duration ranging from ten minutes to five hours. The rail roko was organised to coincide with the all-party meeting convened by Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Vehicular traffic came to a standstill on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada NH-9 and the Narketpalli-Addanki highway where pro-Telangana activists staged a rasta roko for about three hours. A scuffle ensued between the activists and police on the road between Suryapet and Nalgonda following the arrest of a leader of the Joint Action Committee of Telangana Students. Traffic was also disrupted at Yellareddy in Nizamabad district and Adilabad town.
In the coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions, the activists blocked the movement of Sabari Express, Krishna Express, Kerala Express, Janmabhumi Express and Navjivan Express, Venkatadri Express, Rayalaseema Express and Jayanti Janata Express.
