railway board

Southern Railway  is a more a passenger-oriented railway, unlike the other zones that carry more freight. SR is unique because we carry 1-1.1 million passengers every day, which is 10 per cent of the traffic on Indian Railways. Normally, the passenger traffic growth rate is 8 per cent, but this year it has been far higher at 12 per cent. This despite the threat from the so-called low-cost airlines! We've not had passengers running away to these airlines.

The Indian Railway Board is the apex body of the Indian Railways. It reports to the Indian Ministry of Railways. It has the following members currently
  • Chairman Railway Board: S. S. Khurana
  • Member Electrical: vacant
  • Member Staff: A.K. Goyal
  • Member Mechanical: R.K.Rao
  • Member Traffic: Vivek Sahai
  • FinanceCommissioner:SowmyaRaghavan                                                                                                                                    The first Railway Board in India was appointed by Lord Curzon's government in 1905.
